If I then login to my Mac, and connect to a wifi signal put out by the Sky router, I can successfully conect through the VPN to devices hanging
I'm afraid the Sky router won't allow you to establish a VPN connection from the router itself.. In fact it won't let you do a whole lot of anything.. Overall, if your router allowed you to do it, then yes it would be the easiest way.. Ended up buying a differen't make of router and it worked fine (this is on BT Internet). There are lads at work who use Sky and can connect, though not sure what model of router they use.
